ABS Schools Build Challenge
The School Build Challenge is back for 2025!
Calling all passionate young LEGO® builders across the Auckland region! Create and enter your very own amazing LEGO® creation, based on this year’s theme "Celebration", and enter the competition to win a LEGO® prize pack for you and your classroom!
But that's not all, all finalists will also win a family pass, and have the opportunity to feature their creations at the Auckland Brick Show 2025.

Key Dates
Entries close Sunday, 21st September at 7:00 PM
Finalists announced Tuesday, 23rd September
Finalists will be asked to drop their creation off on Friday, 25th September, between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm at the Auckland Brick Show venue - Auckland Netball Centre, 7 Allison Ferguson Drive, St John's, Auckland 1072.

Rules
Theme
The build must be related to the theme 'Celebration' - how this is interpreted is up to your imagination! Look to birthday parties, festive holidays, wacky costume parties, to firework displays, parades, or a sport winning for inspiration. Essentially, anything worth celebrating, you can build it! We'll ask for a short comment as part of your entry on how the build relates to celebration.
Age groups:
- Year 0-2
- Year 3-4
- Year 5-6
- Year 7-8
Size of the build
The build must fit on a standard 32 x 32 Stud base plate (the classic green baseplate).
Prizes
- All finalists: Family Pass (2 adults, 2 children)
- Winners: Toyworld Voucher
- Classroom prize: - Bulk lot LEGO®
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I enter multiple builds?
Only one entry per participant is eligible, if multiple entries are submitted the judges will only consider the latest entry.
Can a group or siblings enter a build together?
Yes! Groups made up of siblings, friends or classmates can enter a single creation together. They must be entered under the elderset participant. If the group are finalists they're only eligible for one family pass and if they win are only eligible for one prize.
Can a group enter if they come different schools/classes?
Yes, a group can be made up of kids from different schools/class classrooms can enter together. They must be entered under the eldest participant. If the group are finalists, they're only eligible for one family pass, and if they win, they're only eligible for one prize. The classroom prize will be allocated to the eldest participant.
Can we use an existing LEGO® set?
You can use parts or minifigures from any LEGO® set or theme; however, the creation must be original! This includes all aspects of the build, such as cars or buildings.
Who judges the School Build Challenge?
Finalists are chosen by a panel of Auckland Brickshow organisers, but the winners are picked from a group of Lego Master NZ contestants, special guests, and sponsors.
Where is the adult category?
We aren't running an adult or teen category this year! If you're interested in building competitions, we’ll be running some building challenges at the Auckland Brickshow, and we do them as part of our monthly meetings at AuckLUG - come join us!
